The MBA application procedure is so exhausting that the applicants forget that the MBA is merely a means to the end, not the end itself. While MBA can be instrumental in achieving those elusive career transitions or rapid promotions, one should not forget the ultimate goals which can be attained through other channels too if needed.
Being an MBA aspirant myself, I realize the toll it can take on esp during the application season. Looking at the applicants’ state, I am aware that it can become quite a mania. As someone put it in one of the forums, “Getting over the reject from your dream school is like getting over your ex. You know why you are out but still you look for that one last shot.”
In fact, this perspective will help in the applications too where you need to convince the adcom what MBA can do for your career goal rather than sounding as if getting an admit is your ultimate destination.
Rejects can be tough but are an excellent learning avenue to really find out what you are looking for. And of course admits are like accepted proposals – you feel on top of the world till you become conscious of the fact that life has just begun
In the end, I just feel the whole process can be very insightful and once you think beyond just the admit/reject, you can have some valuable take-aways from your efforts on the applications. Enjoy.
