I love political dramas and happened to see Frost-Nixon(2008) recently. It’s one of the finest in its genre and as expected from Broadway adaptations, the leading performances are top-notch (too bad Frank Langella did not win an Oscar for his Presidential role). The last political drama that left an impression on me was The Queen. Coincidentally Michael Sheen played significant roles in both. Also, not surprisingly, such movies are questioned over facts and distortions. I am not going into the supposed authenticity of the movie and its best to take it as its director’s interpretation.
Quite often, my liking for a movie stems from the strength of its script and dialogues. Frost-Nixon has a handful of intelligent punches. Of course, I wouldn’t give away the climactic punchline, so here’s another-
Richard Nixon: [Watching Frost head for his car] You mean to say he just paid me two hundred grand for a visit?
Jack Brennan: Yeah.
Richard Nixon: Huh. If I’d known that I would invited him for tea.
