Happy Women’s Day

First Female Director to win Oscar (mirror.co.uk)

Kathryn Bigelow(Lawrence K. Ho / Los Angeles Times)

Glad to see the highest recognition going to a Woman (although I have not seen the movie and can’t comment on the validity but am glad it wasn’t Avatar).

Let me also mention Janet Robinson, CEO of NYTimes, who is trying to steer NYTimes in the most challenging times in history and seems to be doing a good job so far.

Janet Robinson, listed among the 100 most powerful women

Few days back, there was news about Australian celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s offensive sexist remarks and the Australin PM Kevin Rudd had publicly denounced him.

And today, it has been Palin Vs Letterman. I am no advocator of Palin’s political standing and the election jokes were all very fine. But I can’t help agreeing with Palin’s retort to Letterman’s sick jokes on her 14 yr old daughter. American humor and tolerance for media power is in some ways commendable; I laud at the way American society likes to take a kick at itself but such incidences do point at a rotten core when it comes to sexist banters. Sometimes, it is too transparent in a male dominant society that they do not think a penny of their female counterparts.

Who is to draw a line between humor and abuse?

After God had finished creating the world, nature and titbits, God realized one important thing – Women were far too strong of a character for Men. Men were too shallow to understand a woman’s philosophy, too frivolous to understand a woman’s concern and too lazy to indulge in a meaningful discussion with her. In short, God knew that if a woman ever became too sad/serious/disturbed/worried/concerned, there was no way she can come out of it and for that God introduced the concept of…’shopping’. There has been no better remedy for all that crappy stress and tension, no better vent to take out the anger and frustration. If there was no concept of shopping, so many homes would be broken. Recession or no recession – for girls, it was never about financial standing, all that mattered was having that latest design in boots!

Moral of the story: At the end of every dark road, theres a Macys.
